ROMANIA / Vizuresti / 28.01.2009 / School children at the local school. The NGO Ovidiu Rom was in the village for the day to help teach impoverished children and make house calls in an effort to get every child attending school. Founded by Leslie Hawke (mother of the American actor Ethan Hawke) who first came to Romania in 2000 as a volunteer with the Peace Corps, Ovidiu Rom seeks to help put impoverished Romanian children in school and has helped thousands of children throughout out reach programs in the field at the village level. It teaches social workers and psychologists to work effectively with poor families, runs year-round educational programs, helps parents monitor their children's progress and provides counseling and emergency aid. © Davin Ellicson / Anzenberger
